Even More Franchise Details: September Developer Blog

What’s up Maximum Football fans! New month, new dev blog!

September has been a big month for Maximum Football. From a new season to gameplay improvements on the field, the team has been hard at work building on the foundation we launched earlier this year. This blog is your behind-the-scenes look at what’s new, what’s coming soon, and how we’re continuing to push the game forward with your feedback in mind.

Franchise Mode

League Sizes

When it comes to setting up your own pro league, we want you to have the same kind of flexibility you’ve come to expect from Dynasty Mode. You’ll have a handful of different league sizes to choose from so you can shape the kind of experience you want:

  • 32 teams: The classic setup, mirroring modern-day fall football.
  • 8 teams: A smaller league, like the early-2000s XFL or today’s spring leagues.
  • 12 teams: Inspired by the original USFL of the 1980s.
  • 16 or 24 teams: Fully fictional setups for those who want something different.

And just like in Dynasty, you’ll be able to import your custom teams, re-organize divisions, and truly make the league your own.

Draft Classes

Franchise Mode in Maximum Football is designed to do something no other football game has done before: connect your college and pro experiences in a single ecosystem.

When you set up a new Franchise, you’ll have the option to link it directly to one of your Dynasty saves. If you do, every graduating senior from your Dynasty will automatically flow into the following year’s Franchise draft pool. That means the players you recruited, developed, and coached in college can continue their careers in the pros — and you get to follow their journey.

All season long, you’ll be able to scout your upcoming draft class, filter by key attributes, and start building out your draft board. When the offseason arrives, you’ll run a full amateur draft featuring your entire graduating class. Want to move up and grab that stud QB you just sent through college? Trade your picks. Want to stockpile future talent? Wheel and deal for more draft capital.

And just like the real thing, not everyone gets drafted. Any players left on the board after seven rounds will hit the league as undrafted free agents — ready for you to take a chance on or for another team to scoop up.

Trading

Trades are one of the most exciting, and sometimes frustrating, parts of running a pro team. They’re not just about swapping talent; they’re about strategy, timing, and relationships. We wanted our system in Franchise Mode to reflect that.

In Maximum Football, trades aren’t just one-off menu swaps. We’ve built a dynamic trading system where both you and CPU-controlled teams can actively initiate deals. Every offer is weighed against a ton of factors: team needs, positional depth, injury history, age, salary, and even locker room fit.

But here’s where it gets interesting: negotiations matter. If you repeatedly low-ball another team or drag out talks, they’ll walk away from the table and you’ll need to find a new partner. Over time, your reputation across the league will also come into play. Owners will remember if you’re fair to deal with… or if you’re constantly trying to fleece everyone.

And just like in real life, trades don’t happen every day. If you’re trying to wheel and deal nonstop, other owners will eventually shut you out. The result is a system that feels authentic, strategic, and connected to the bigger picture of building a franchise.

Option Plays

Option football is a big part of the sport, and we’re only just getting started. The addition of RPOs in our September update was the first step. The team is now diving into other staples of the option game — from triple options and wishbone looks to speed and read options.

We’re also capturing brand-new animations to make these plays feel fluid and authentic. Here’s a sneak peek at some of what’s in the works.

Scramble Animations

One area we knew needed attention right after launch was quarterback scrambles. Up to now, hitting the sprint button basically turned your QB into a running back, tucking the ball and taking off the moment they left the pocket. And let’s be real, that’s not how scrambling works.

We’ve been building out new, QB-specific animations for those moments when you’re creating with your legs. The focus is on keeping your quarterback in a throwing posture outside the pocket, so if a receiver flashes open, you’re ready to pull the trigger. Of course, once you cross the line of scrimmage, they’ll still do the smart thing and tuck it high and tight.

That’s a wrap for this month’s update. As always, we appreciate you being part of this journey with us. Your feedback and support continue to shape what Maximum Football is becoming. Keep sharing your thoughts, keep building those custom teams, and keep an eye out for more updates as we roll deeper into the season.

Mailbag

Any update on logo search bar and team share?

We know that logo search and team share are highly requested features from the community. Right now, our focus is fully on delivering Franchise mode before the end of the year, but this feature is still on our roadmap to be added to the game later.

Since the last updated offensive playbooks, are there any plans to add more defensive playbooks?

Yes! Both sides of the ball are important, and making sure we give players more options for defensive schemes to run is something we are looking forward to adding after we launch Franchise mode.

Will players have to recreate their teams for Franchise or will you be able to use existing teams?

We spoke about this in our last blog, but yes! Existing teams will be able to be imported into Franchise mode to serve as professional teams. Roster sizes and makeups of pro teams in Maximum Football are a bit different.

What’s the status of gang tackles?

With our focus fully on finishing Franchise Mode right now, work on gang tackling has taken a back seat. But this is something we are still planning to add in the future.

Are create-a-play and create-a-playbook on the roadmap?

Yes these are still a part of our long-term roadmap. We don’t have an ETA on when they will be added, but it is something the team looks forward to adding in the future.
